Fireproof

Richard and I had to put a plug in for a movie that just came out a while ago called "Fireproof" (Thanks Pamela for telling us about it). It has REALLY bad acting and is pretty cheesy but the message is really really good. It's all about a fireman who is struggling in his marriage and finally decides to get a divorce. But his Dad challenges him to put off the divorce for 40 days and outlines a plan for his son that makes him do something different for his wife every day. The cheesiness dies off a little by the end and it ends up being pretty good. It's perfectly clean, really supportive of the sanctity of marriage, and was more spiritual than I thought it would be. You can check out the trailer here or you can look at this link they posted at the end of the movie to get tips on how to strengthen your marriage. So cool!!! Even if you don't want to watch it, I think it's a great thing to support this kind of movie. So go get it from Redbox right now! It's only a dollar and they need all the help they can get :)

Diploma City

Richard and I both got a fun package in the mail yesterday- our diplomas!!!! They both came at the same time and it is so fun to finally have proof of all we did over the last 3 1/2 or 4 years. They are both signed by Pres. Monson (ok, not REALLY signed, but his signature is on there) :) and by Pres. Samuelson, which is pretty cool. Other than the millions of kids who have also gone through BYU, how many people can say that? Ha ha. Wahoo- we're done!!!!!!!!!!!

Richard has a job

This is Richard (Kelli may or may not fully endorse this message). My friend Jason just finally became cool enough to have his own blog and it inspired me to blog about a few things myself (obviously I am not cool enough to have my own but even though Kelli keeps telling me that this is her blog I claim it as mine since it is titled THE HENRICKSEN'S and it contains stories about me).

What I wanted to blog about was my heroic adventure to get a job during this obvious time of economic distress. After a long treacherous battle of unemployment (a month) I am finally done spending my days searching through lists of classifieds, spending hours at the library reading and talking to crazy prophets (there are some interesting people out there), and fighting the horrible monsters of Nintendo. I now have a job! yeah!

My job is at a place called SecurityMetrics (thanks Matt for your help). I don't know all the details yet but basically I will be working in the phone room making sure that all the businesses I call will be up to standard with the credit card security policies. If not, then I will sign them up for what they lack. Since they by law have to meet these standars (or suffer huge fines) the hardest part will be getting them to sign up through us and not some other company. Propably not my dream job and may not be making a career out of this but from what I have been through and heard the last month I am lucky to have even a job. And there are worse jobs out there for sure. I wanted to thank all of you for your prayers on our behalf and especially wanted to thank my Heavenly Father for Him being mindful of me and my family.

Not My Week

Yesterday I started off the day in almost the worst way possible- I got pulled over! I was on my way to work and glanced in my rearview mirror to see those dreaded flashing lights. I tried not to pray that it was on it's way to an accident but at the same time I hoped the cop had his lights on for any other reason than for giving me a ticket. But nope! It was for me.

I pulled over to the side of the road and he asked me if I knew why I had been pulled over. I said no and he said I was going 44 mph in a 30 mph zone. However, a block in front of me, I could clearly see the speed limit sign that said 45 mph! I even asked him about that and he said he didn't know where the limit changed. I was more mad at that than getting pulled over- I was being punished when he didn't even know what the speed limit was!!!! Luckily he was nice and only wrote me down for going 6 mph over the limit even though he said it was 14. I was worried about being pulled over but I was probably even more worried about being late to work on my 3rd day! Luckily my boss is super chill and when I told him I had been pulled over he said, "Cool, what'd you do?" Ha ha.

The other thing that made this week not great happened at work today. I have been working on a huge report for the past two days. After lunch today, I worked super hard to get it done and finally finished just after 5:00. I KNOW I had been saving it all day because it takes forever to save so I have to sit and wait for it.

But when I went to close the document after finishing it all, the little box popped up that said "this program is not responding". It closed after a while but when I went back in to make sure everything was ok, ALL of my work was gone!!!! It was horrible! This time my boss was a little TOO chill and just said, well you had a great day of work today so now you'll have a great day full of work tomorrow! That definitely did not lift my spirits.... At least they know I'm a hard worker because I do everything twice :)

Hot Chocolate

I have always loved hot chocolate but it took me a while to get into all the crazy flavors after growing up only drinking my mom's home-made kind. (Which by the way, is amazing!) Then I discovered flavors like chocolate mint and orange creme and I started loving it even more. But I didn't realize how much I had come to love it until I noticed that we have 8 cans of hot chocolate on our shelf!!! 8!! There really is nothing kind like a steaming mug of hot cocoa on a cold day, especially when you have an apartment as cold as mine, but I think we're getting a little extreme. Stephen's should personally write us a thank you card for helping keep them in business!!! If any would like a nice cup of hot cocoa on any given day, now you know where to come :)

Hooray!!!!

Believe it or not- I got a job!!! Just as I was whining and complaining about it the most, Heavenly Father still decided to bless me for some reason! I am now an administrative assistant at Heritage Web Solutions. It's a company that either designs websites for people or is the host company for those who want to design their own websites. I'll be working with their programmers across the nation and making sure they are communicating with their customers and making sure they get paid, etc. If you want to check out their website you can here. I am SO excited to have a job again! Thanks for all the prayers, love, and support that was given! Keep praying for a good job for Richard :)

The Search Continues

Sorry it has been so long since I've posted. My life isn't entirely boring, but it's hard to have fun stuff to blog about when I'm home all day. Because I have been sick for the past week and Richard got sick on Friday, we stay home and watch movies and read and play games together (after applying for jobs every day of course). It's fun to get to spend so much time with Richard but I am already going crazy being in our little apartment for this long! I have applied for over 30 jobs and Richard about half that many and we still haven't heard anything!!!! Please continue to keep us in your prayers and keep your eyes open for any job openings you see. We appreciate the support and we would really love a job :)
