Trip to IN

Since our trip was postponed due to our "fun" little hospital stint, we decided to head to Indiana this week instead!  The girl's did ok on the trip there, but not quite as good as I was hoping.  I'm pretty sure Kaylee asked me 10 THOUSAND times if we were STILL on the freeway.  I think I answered her very patiently for the first 9,000 times but patience can only last so long, right?  Ha ha. It was mostly rainy and dreary so we didn't go many places but I am totally ok with that.  After all, I'm going to see my sister, not explore the city.  And from what I could tell, I wouldn't want to explore much of Indianapolis anyway.  Everything I saw was pretty ghetto and definitely a step down from Columbus.  Don't worry, I'm still working hard on convincing them to come here next year instead!!!  We did make it to the Children's Museum, which was obviously designed by someone without children.  It is famous for being the biggest museum but they have SO much wasted space and half of the stuff is just behind glass for the kids to look at.  Hello?  Have you ever been around a kid who wanted to just stare at a car without climbing in, over, on, and around it?  For example, they had a dinosaur dig site. We thought the kids would love it so we made that our first stop.
However the "dirt" is actually not diggable except in 2 or 3 tiny holes that you can barely dig in (everything around where Kaylee is sitting is rock hard and you couldn't do anything with it at all).  No wonder we were the only ones with little kids in the dino part!  Lame lame lame. Anyway we did find some fun things there like whatever this thing is:
And even though most of the cars were off limits, they did have this motorcycle you could get on, so how could we pass up a photo opportunity there?
Kenna was loving watching herself in the mirror. I guess when you are that cute, why bother finding other things to look at?  Here she is giving herself a big kiss
We also went to feed the ducks, which luckily for Kaylee went really good this time.  (Last time I took her to feed the ducks we were attacked by crazy geese and it ended by me chucking the bread, picking up Kaylee and running!  I didn't want her to be traumatized for life after that...) Good thing these ducks were nice!
And we definitely had some good cousin time
Most importantly though, I had a blast with my sister talking, laughing, spraying crumbs all over her car (guess you had to be there...), eating junk, watching movies, and trying to keep the kids busy.  Saying goodbye is always the worst!  But at least we know it won't be too long until we see her again.  As for Indianapolis....I think I could do without ever seeing that city again :)

Hospitals Are No Fun

We had quite the scare this week. Kaylee had had a runny nose over the weekend but didn't seem super sick and she went to bed on Sunday night with no problems.  She woke up around 12:30 screaming bloody murder and it took us almost an hour to calm her down.  During the night we would get her calmed down and she would wake up 20 mins or so later, still screaming.  As the night went on, her breathing kept getting worse and it almost sounded like she was hyperventilating at one point. We called the Urgent Care hotline to find out what to do and they told us to take her to the Emergency Room.  They told us that she had pneumonia and were going to transfer her to the Children's Hospital here so Kaylee got to take a ride in an ambulance. I wish I could get the picture Richard took on his phone on here so you could see the saddest picture in the whole world.  If you can just picture our sweet little girl strapped to this huge gurney with an oxygen mask on her face, IV in her hand, and the saddest look in the world, you will understand why it broke our hearts!  We got to the Children's Hospital and waited in the ER for a long time before we were able to be admitted to the hospital. Their radiologists looked at her chest x-ray and told us that it wasn't pneumonia but bronchiolitis instead (which, as I understand it, is just a general term for any kind of inflammation in the lungs). The reason she couldn't breathe is because she has asthma and I guess this was our first experience with an asthma attack.  This was the scariest experience in my life and I'm so glad she is ok!  Richard asked the ER nurses if we had waited too long to bring her in and they said "it's hard to say but if you would have waited much longer she would have just passed out from lack of oxygen"!!!! Not something I really want to hear as a mom but at least we got her to the hospital in time.  It was really hard to watch my baby girl have to go through all of this . The first day she was really dehydrated and lethargic and just wanted to sleep in our arms.  They kept her overnight on Monday night and she was feeling much better the next day.  In fact Tuesday was a much harder day in the hospital because she was feeling better and her medicine made her kind of hyper so she was bouncing off the walls!  To make a long story short, we were able to go home Tuesday night and have just been keeping an eye on her breathing. I hope we never have to go through another experience like that again!

My sad sick little girl
Finally able to get some sleep in her "cage"
Feeling much better and starting to get a little crazy
Getting a fun wagon ride on our way down to the car (isn't that so cute?  They give the kids wagon rides instead of making them go down in a wheelchair!)
We are so happy to be home again and that our little girl is safe. Thanks to all of our AMAZING friends who helped us out with McKenna.  We couldn't have done this without you!

Family Pictures

Here are the promised shots I talked about that my sister-in-law took when we were in Utah.  She is just getting into photography and editing and I thought she did a fantastic job!!  This ended up being a really bad day to do it because this is when McKenna was getting four teeth in at the same time so we were all really tired and it was seriously the only really humid day I've ever felt in Utah which made my hair go crazy....but luckily we still got some great shots and Jen did an even better job editing them.  Thanks again Jen!!!!! (Sorry for the massive amount of pictures.  It was hard to choose my favorites!)

Christmas Came Early

Oh my goodness I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. This is like Christmas, my birthday, and Easter all rolled up into one.  Why am I so excited you might ask?  Because I got my Christmas present early this year:
And I could not be more thrilled!  We have come across a few cheap pianos for sale in the past and I have always been so tempted to buy them but for one reason or another the timing and/or price was just not right. But this time our neighbor was desperate to get it out of her house and sold it to us for practically nothing!  For about a week after we moved it into our house, I got a big smile on my face every time I walked into the room. We have had a keyboard almost the whole time we have been married but nothing beats a real piano! I have been able to play it almost every single day and it just feels SO. DARN. GOOD!  I never thought I would love playing the piano as much as I do but it is a wonderful thing. And hopefully that will be passed onto my two adorable daughters who love to bang on it as much as I do (yup, the way we play sounds about the same. Ha ha). McKenna especially has loved it and for the first little while would just giggle uncontrollably while she played.
We can even play duets together!
Love love love my new present!!  Christmas will pale in comparison to this :)
