January 2022

McKenna and Brooklyn wrote a whole slew of songs and put on a concert for us on New Year's Eve. It was great to see their creativity and teamwork. We had our usual mystery dinner where Richard goes crazy at the store buying all kinds of frozen and/or prepared food and we pick what we are going to eat without knowing what we're picking. It has become one of the girl's favorite traditions!

McKenna wrote a play and asked all of us to participate. We all got a character and a copy of the script and she put us to work! We started filming it but it was taking too long and so we never finished it but at least we have proof that we did it!

We couldn't start putting our new flooring in until we figured out what we were doing in the bathroom so we got to work ripping everything out of it. The cabinet was harder than we thought it was going to be and it felt SO good to finally rip that thing out of there!

The girls had Martin Luther King Jr day off from school so we took advantage of the snow and found a new place to go sledding. It was a great spot and we all had so much fun! The snowflakes were the most beautiful ones I've ever seen and looked just like what you see snowflakes drawn as. They looked so cool! I was obsessed with them.

I finally got my Primary board up for the new year and was actually really happy with how it turned out.

Brooklyn celebrated her 100th day of school by dressing up like an old lady. She had so much fun getting into character, including taking a "cane" and walking like her back was hurting. After school me, Brooklyn and Kenna drew what we thought we would look like at 100 years old.

I can't remember exactly when this happened but I think it was in January and I wanted to remember the story. We told the kids we would go eat at Olive Garden once COVID numbers calmed down to celebrate going to eat in a restaurant again and the girls getting vaccinated. We decided to go out one night but then had second thoughts because the numbers had jumped back up again. It took a long time to help everyone feel good about the decision to not go eat at the restaurant and by the time we talked about, decided what to eat, and ordered it, the food wasn't going to be ready until 7:00. We were all starving and grumpy and some of the family were upset we couldn't eat out. I wondered what I could do to make it fun and turn everyone's mood around. I told the girls we could eat in a different place and we would set it up like a fancy restaurant. They chose to eat in our room and we dimmed the lights and used candles to set the mood. Brooklyn was in charge of decorating the room, McKenna made the sign for our restaurant and Kaylee wanted to be the waiter who would go around with a tray of Mio drink flavoring and ask everyone what drink they wanted. We had it all set up and was just waiting for Richard to get home with the food. McKenna decided she didn't want Richard going in the room so she locked the door and closed it behind her. Unfortunately, we hadn't switched the doorknobs yet to the new ones we bought so we didn't have the key to get back in! So after all that work to turn everyone's mood around, now I was the one who was super grumpy and frustrated. We have been leaving a window open in our bedroom because this has happened before but it is a huge pain to get in! We had to get out the ladder, take out the screen, and wiggle and very cold, slippery window up from the outside. The food would have been very cold by the time we got in so we ate at our kitchen table like normal and then took forever to get into our bedroom. It was definitely not the celebratory evening we had pictured!
