Jan 2017

With my winning from the door contest I wanted to do something super fun. I had always wanted to try an escape room so we decided to take our friends on a double date to one.  It was AWESOME.  Seriously, I would get such a high when a clue was solved and there was enough in the room that everyone got a chance to solve something but we also had to work together.  It definitely got me hooked.
When we explained to the girls what it was, they wanted to try it too so Richard spent a long time one Sunday night coming up with his own escape room game that we could play with the girls. They loved it!  It was fun to see how into it Richard got.
Mom and Dad got home from their mission to the Columbia MTC and we were so sad we couldn't be there to greet them at the airport.  But Scott and Kristi facetimed Holly and I so we could at least see them come down and greet the rest of the family. Those are definitely the moments that make it really hard to be away.
Kaylee wanted to try out basketball this year and I was a little nervous since she was one of the youngest on the team and it seemed like almost every had played before.  Unfortunately, she got a terrible coach who told the team that their job was just to pass it to the best girl on the team so she could score all their points.  It was such a huge disappointment to have a coach like that in a league where they are supposed to be learning the game, not focusing on winning.  Kaylee still put 100% into every game and ran her little heart out. I was really proud of her! She had hardly touched the ball all season so in the very last game the ref stopped the game and said, anyone who hasn't gotten to dribble the ball down will get a chance this game.  He gave the ball to Kaylee and let her take it all the way down and make a shot and she made it!  It was an exciting way to end a very frustrating season.
Last spring when we had a boring Sunday and everyone kept fighting, we busted out the huge stack of scrapbook paper someone gave me a created a garden.  It was one of the most fun projects I have done with all the kids.  I wanted to try it again and we decided to make a zoo this time.  I'm not sure it had quite the same magical change to our day that the garden did but the kids got really into making all the animals and it was really fun to work together.
McKenna finally got to bring home her class mascot.  All the kids got to take him home for a weekend and we were supposed to take pictures of the things they did together and write in a journal for him.  She was so excited and HAD to take him to everything we did.
