August 2026

Kaylee and McKenna went homecoming dress shopping together! It was fun to have two girls looking for a dress. They even tried on a bunch of the same dresses at the same time.

Brooklyn's friend had her birthday party at Zoombezi Bay! It was raining most of the day and I was worried they wouldn't get to do much but luckily the lightning stayed away and it was raining the first hour or so but not too bad and they had an amazing time! One of the good things about the rain was that it chased a lot of other people away so they were able to go down the slides more than they would have been able to otherwise.

Brooklyn's friend went to an exotic petting zoo and Brooklyn really wanted to go. That one was really expensive but we found another one that was cheaper and only an hour away from our house so we decided to check it out, kind of as a last activity of summer. We were able to feed and pet the kangaroos, cavys, goats, and camels, and even got to pet a skunk, a wolf, alpacas, horses, donkeys, a ferret, and chickens. There were a few other animals we could just watch and not touch, like the emus, lemurs, and an adorable tiny monkey. McKenna, of course, was in heaven but I actually think all of us really enjoyed it.

On the way home, we stopped at the only Buccee's in Ohio and got dinner and slurpees. While it was cool to see the gigantic store, all of us agreed that we do not understand the Buccee hype!

Our friends, the Christman's, asked McKenna to rat sit for the last couple weeks of summer. It was perfect because we didn't have anything else to do and it got us out of the house every day. McKenna and Brooklyn build a cardboard maze for them that was really impressive and they spent hours every day holding and playing with the rats.

McKenna tried out for the high school soccer team. I was really impressed that she was willing to put herself out there like that, especially because she hadn't played soccer for a few years. They told her that she didn't make the team because she didn't come to the summer practices, which was a bummer, but we were so proud of her for trying!

On the Monday before school started, the girls went with me to volunteer at the food pantry. They had us organize and restock the drinks, sort diapers into individual bags, and organize a big section of boxes full of snacks so they could find what they needed easier. The girls all worked super hard for 3.5 hours and we had a really good time together, working, chatting and laughing.

After we finished at the food pantry, I took them to Tim Horton's to get their free drinks and donuts, courtesy of the library's summer reading program. They also had a bunch of HP donuts and had decorated the whole restaurant with HP stuff for the 25th anniversary of the 1st movie coming out. So we We HAD to get some HP donuts to try!

Another year of school! Brooklyn and McKenna both started new schools this year and were both apprehensive and excited. McKenna also started seminary, which she was really excited about, despite the early start time. Kaylee was ready for school but is taking 5 AP classes and is worried about her workload. Plus, she is involved in multiple clubs, including one her and her friend started. Hopefully she can also manage to have fun this year!

I made 3 more villains to add to my collection. While I am not the best at clay, it is fun to give them some extra accessories besides just painting the dolls and I was really proud of the claywork I did on Scar.

Kaylee didn't find a Homecoming dress that first time with McKenna so she went with some friends. She still didn't make a decision but tried on a bunch of cute ones!
