August 2021

August was a little more slow as we wound down summer to get ready for school starting.

Brooklyn got a fun surprise for the end of the library's summer reading program. She won a bike, lock and helmet through a raffle! The whole staff came down to cheer her on and take pictures.

It must have inspired her to get serious about riding without training wheels because she was finally willing to go out with Richard and work on it. It didn't take her long and she was cruising!

We attempted to make a new kind of slime but it was too sticky to really work as slime. The kids still had too much fun playing in it, especially Kaylee.

School started! The kids had to wear masks and still had a lot of restrictions at school but there were back to going every day and it felt more normal. Kaylee started 6th grade, which is in it's own building in our district. She has 7 periods that she goes to every day. She was really overwhelmed at first and seemed to have a lot of homework but she hit her stride and has really thrived.

McKenna started 4th grade and Brooklyn started 1st grade. They are still BFFs and happy to be in the same school for two more years.

Another new adventure for Brooklyn was starting gymnastics! She has been constantly doing cartwheels since last spring and does them everywhere we go, even in the aisles of stores. So we decided to put that energy to good use and signed her up at Fliptastics Gymnastics and so far she is loving every class!

We had a fun Primary activity where the girls learned how to throw tomahawks and got to try throwing a few at a target. We had a lot of people show up so they only got to throw a few but they thought it was pretty cool!

Kaylee has so many books that she has run out of space on her bookshelf and mine! We bought a bookcase to put downstairs to give her more room to keep collecting and she has definitely made good use of it! She loved putting it together- she loves to do adult things, including building and fixing things.
