This May was our 10th year wedding anniversary so we convinced my mom to come babysit the girls while we went on a trip. We went back and forth forever trying to decide on a good place that wasn't too far from here and finally settled on Myrtle Beach. The first night we walked around and explored Broadway at the Beach, which is a ton of stores surrounding a lake where they do these crazy boat rides that spin all the way around. Then we went to a mirror maze that was way too short but was really fun. We stretched it out by going back through it and playing hide and seek to see if we could find each other in the mirrors. It really messed with your mind! It was pretty cool. And of course every night we had to have a walk on the beach!
The next day we had the whole day planned and we ended up changing every single one of our plans- ha ha. We tried to go to an escape room in the morning but we had been looking at the wrong website so it wasn't open yet. We walked pretty far down the beach before realizing it but just enjoyed the view and walking along the beach. When we got back, we decided to go down to the beach and just relax and swim for the afternoon. I never though of myself as a beach person, but oh my goodness this was just what we needed! It was so nice to just relax and listen to the ocean and get some sun. Afterwards, we got some ice cream at Sugar Life, which was this giant candy and ice cream store. I had never had this flavor before and it was amazing! So I made sure I had a giant cone of it every day :) Then we went to a new escape room place that had just opened up 6 months or so ago. It was just the two of us in the room and it was so much fun we decided to do a second room while we were there. We were going to go back and relax on the beach but once the sun went down it was actually pretty cold so we went to the indoor pool and hot tub instead.
Friday we started off the morning going mini golfing on one of their many fun courses we saw all over the place. We went shopping and got the girls some souvenirs and then headed over to a ropes course. This was by far our favorite thing we did. They had three levels- Richard guessed the first one was about 15 ft off the ground, the second 30 ft and the third 45 ft! The first two levels were a little challenging but nothing we couldn't do with concentration and they were a lot of fun. By the time we got to the third level we were already pretty exhausted and didn't realize these ones got WAY harder! I barely made it through the 3rd course and a couple times I basically just had to let go of everything and pull myself hand over hand by my safety line and even Richard had to do that once. We would definitely do something like that again though! We had our final walk down the beach that night and we went further than we ever had, down to a boardwalk that extends out the back of a restaurant there on the beach. We got to watch the sunset from there and it was gorgeous! If I could walk down the beach at sunset every night, I would be a happy girl.
Our last morning we went back and walked around Broadway at the Beach and went to a museum called WonderWorks which is supposed to be part science museum, part fun center with a ropes course and laser tag. It wasn't quite as fun as I was hoping and since it was Saturday it was crazy crowded. We flew home that night and Mom had helped the girls decorate for my birthday and had let them each buy a present for me and then had planned a party with games and cake. It was so sweet and they had put a lot of work into it. It made my birthday awesome, especially since we had to spend part of it traveling.
We had a guest speaker come to our YW group and talk about photography. She actually taught me a lot and had us practice different techniques outside. One of my favorite things to practice was taking things from new angles, which got all of us laying on the ground or in all kinds of crazy positions. Hopefully it will help me take better pictures now too!
Alex invited us to go to the zoo with her and Gabriel and I jumped at the chance since we don't have a zoo pass anymore. The older girls got really sick of the zoo so poor Brooklyn got jipped on her visits. She had a lot of fun looking at the animals but, of course, loved the playground most. Why do they build a playground at the zoo!?!
We bought the girls a Slip N Slide this year and they have been having so much fun with it. Brooklyn didn't like actually sliding on it but loves splashing in the little pool at the end and the girls have invited friends over to do it a couple times so it has been really nice to have. I love having my own lawn!!!
The girls and I have loved this school so much! I went and helped out on Field Day and it was a nasty, hot, super super humid day but they all had so much fun! They really go all out now and had bounce houses, mini go-carts, hand pedal bikes, and all kinds of fun activities. On the last day of school McKenna had her Kindergarten program where they sang songs and got a little diploma. She had a pretty good teacher but it was Kaylee's teacher that really restored my faith in public school. She was AMAZING, I don't think we'll ever have another teacher like her. Kaylee was sobbing saying goodbye to her on the last day, especially since she didn't know if she would be back at this school the next year.
